Taken at Malcolm Douglas’s Crocodile Park in Broome, this crocodile was very big and I took the photo through the wire of his enclosure, I was on the right side!
Sunrise over the Gulf of Thailand taken from a boutique hotel in Hua Hin (sorry I cant remember the hotel name!) not far from the Monkey Island. A West Australian always knows they are in a different place when we see the sun come up over the water!
“Going down South” is common phrase used by West Australians during the holiday season which for West Aussies is pretty much anytime of the year they can get away from work or school. Heard most often during school holidays when parents will pack up the kids and the dog and head down south during the summer season to escape the heat and the busy city to relax in a more rural environment. Excitement Plus! I am off to Phuket on the 26th October for a couple of hotel reviews, happy days!
We disembarked about 7 am and collected our luggage and called a local taxi service to find our hire car company. The only booking I had made before arriving in Tasmania was the hire car, a Nissan X-Trail, no accommodation was booked. We decided before we left Perth that we wanted to arrive in Tasmania with just the car waiting for us and hit the road and see where it takes us. [Read more…]
Recently I was sent to Denmark for work, no not the one in Europe with an Australian Princess, the Denmark that is 423 km south west of the West Australian capital, Perth. It takes about 4.5 hours driving from Perth, it took us about 5.5 hours as we live east of Perth and had to pick up my Dad from Fremantle before turning south. [Read more…]
I was talking to my Dad the other night and he mentioned how he would like to take the Indian Pacific or The Ghan train from Perth to Sydney or Adelaide, which I think is a great idea and something I have always wanted to do as well. [Read more…]
Decided to create a Thai version of Walkabout today and Took will be translating all the stories on the English site as they come in and also considering doing a Mandarin version as well so 3 times the workload! Luckily I can handle the pressure! Any suggestions for other languages we should translate?

I have had this desire to create a Travel related web site for many years now and first registered the domain name walkabout.net.au nearly 10 years ago and have had a few small sites running under the domain. I was always time poor and couldn’t devote enough hours to develop the sites as they should have been.
Today I am in a better position and have time to allocate to developing the site and a clear plan for the sites future. Like you I have read many travel websites and travel blogs and I am often overwhelmed by the amount of advertising on the site and at times struggle to distinguish between genuine travel stories and advertorials.
