Kangaroo Creek Chalets Pemberton

another native wren“Going down South” is common phrase used by West Australians during the holiday season which for West Aussies is pretty much anytime of the year they can get away from work or school. Heard most often during school holidays when parents will pack up the kids and the dog and head down south during the summer season to escape the heat and the busy city to relax in a more rural environment.

With many towns and villages along the South West coast and many inland as well the choice of holiday destination is generous. This area of Western Australia has a cooler climate and higher rainfall than the capital Perth and as such the grass is greener and the trees grow taller.

Pemberton Western Australia

One such town is Pemberton located about 335 kilometres south of Perth, the town started life in the 1800’s as a timber town. Timber milling of plantation trees still employs a large number of the local population. Wine making and tourism are now also major attractions for the area.

It seems to be quite common amongst us West Aussies that as soon as an international visitor comes to our state we take them down south to see the beautiful forests and sample some of our fine wines.

Although I try very hard to be different than everyone else ultimately I am a West Aussie boy through and through so when my partner first came to Australia our first holiday destination was the South West.

South West Caravanning

As a boy growing up in Fremantle our school holiday were often spent caravanning around Western Australia, now that I am grown I don’t know how my parents managed it with 3 feuding siblings. Pemberton was a frequent holiday destination for our family and I have many pleasant memories of the caravan park at Pemberton.

So off we set for our first holiday together in Western Australia but the caravan park was not an option and I needed something a little more romantic and private. After much internet research I settled on the Kangaroo Creek Chalets in Pemberton, the images from the website looked very good and suitably quiet and private.

We arrived in the late afternoon after a picturesque and easy drive from Perth, we brought all our supplies from Perth so we could enjoy a few days relaxing without the need for shopping.

Kangaroo Creek Chalets

The property and chalet were beautiful and well appointed with a spa bath, coffee machine, full sized kitchen and bed linen supplied. The spa and bathroom were excellent with plenty of room for two people. There are 3 chalets all spaced well apart for privacy and I don’t think we saw any other guests for the 4 nights we were there.

The sweeping verandah at the front of each chalet gave a beautiful view of the natural forest and a clear view of the huge dam and jetty. There was a gas BBQ which we made good use of every evening on the verandah. Heating was provided by a gas fireplace and it worked very well as the nights were quite cool.

If you are looking for a romantic South West getaway then you really should consider the Kangaroo Creek Chalets. We promised ourselves we would come back again soon but it’s been nearly 4 years now so I think it’s nearly time.
